Brain Gain
Zimbabweans gain experience abroad

The outreach to Zimbabweans in the Diaspora revealed that there is tremendous talent and experience among Zimbabweans in the Diaspora. This was particularly evident at the ZimExpo in Atlanta, where Zimbabweans from all over the United States gathered.
While most of the Zimbabweans seen at ZimExpo were educated in Zimbabwe, many of them have pursued further studies in the United States. Many more have gained considerable experience in their chosen careers.

The team was impressed with the array of talent represented at Zimexpo. Among the many people there were a Hollywood director, university lecturers, accountants, lawyers, scientists, inventors, project managers, ministers of religion, athletes, business people in a variety of fields and students in biochemistry and civil aviation.

Many of them were keen to use their talents and experience to serve their country, Zimbabwe, either back in Zimbabwe or from where they now live in the United States.

Rainbow Tourism Group Chief Executive Herbert Nkala, who is Chairman of the Publicity Sub-Committee promoting Homelink-Kumusha-Ekhaya, was so impressed by the skills and experience gained in the United States by many of the Zimbabweans he met in Atlanta that he declared there had not been a brain drain from Zimbabwe but a brain gain.

Speaking at a dinner at the expo, he said there were many Zimbabweans who had broadened their experience in the United States and acquired new talents that could be used to serve Zimbabwe.

A member of the Zimbabwe Chamber revealed to Reserve Bank officials at a meeting in Atlanta details of an invention that he has patented which turns coal ashes into cement.

In the United States, Britain and South Africa a number of Zimbabweans are running their own businesses, some of which provide services chiefly for other Zimbabweans.
